Fitness a fad? No more. At least for health conscious Hyderabadis, who have come to believe in fitness as a necessity.

Not surprisingly then that gyms and fitness institutes have mushroomed in the city, while experts from around the world are increasingly converging here to offer their "unique" mantra for a healthy living.

One such mantra was offered by Jannie Claassen, Reebok’s Global Master Trainer and Managing Director Reebok Instructor Alliance, during a workshop last week here.

Claasen introduced to the fitness crazed denizens of this city, mostly trainers, some novel training programmes, including one on Martial Arts that combines elements of Karate, Western Boxing, and Thai boxing with traditional fitness movements. The workout claims to improve cardiovascular and muscular endurance, speed, balance, coordination and breathing techniques.

During the workshop, which is also being conducted in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai, he also brought in the African Rhythm footprints, a dance based fitness programme integrating movements from six different styles -- Primitive Dance, Renaissance Court Dance, Contemporary Classic Dance, Modern Dance, Jazz and Hip Hop. And now the global master trainer is setting his eyes on the corporates here.

"We will be bringing in programmes for the corporates soon. Our initial years were spent on creating an infrastructure in terms of training and creating a fitness workforce, and we will soon commence the second phase of working with corporates," the South African trainer said.

People are moving away from the concept of physical fitness for losing weight and building muscles to that on overall well-being of mind, soul and body, he says. Hyderabad has caught on with the latest trends with enthusiasm, and holds a promising future for fitness, a delighted Claasen adds.
