The oft-held perception that Arts and Sciences can never get along was challenged by none other than pharma giant Dr Reddy’s Laboratories in Hyderabad. In line with company's new ethos of "Life Research Hope," DRL conducted a two-day art camp titled "A Creative Endeavor," wherein budding artists of Hyderabad gathered at the Dr Reddy's Research Foundation (DRF) last week.

The nine artists were chosen by Vicar Ewari, noted curator of Art Exhibitions in the city, based on their ability to bring the theme alive through their art form.

The identity of a corporate is a composite of many things. Some of the components that go into the identity of a company are: Purpose, values, systems, membership requirements, rituals and so on. How we interact with each other, what values we cherish, what are we setting out to do and so on. We have defined our core purpose as to help people lead healthier lives. This is the reason for which our company exists," says G V Prasad, vice chairman and CEO DRL.

"Through this event we hope that the young and talented artists assembled here would give a visual representation to what Dr Reddy's truly is. We look forward to seeing dimensions of the company that words cannot express adequately. We hope the artists create exciting visuals of its persona," he said during the camp.

The artists chosen included Sisir Sahana, who studied art at Santiniketan and at Central St Martins College of Art and Design in London, and well-known for his stained glass paintings.

B Srinivas Reddy, qualified with a Diploma in Sculpture, JNTU Hyderabad, and a Post Diploma in Sculpture from MS University, Baroda, who added a new dimension to sculpture with his surrealistically organic imagery.

LNV Srinivas, with a Masters in Fine Arts (Painting) from University of Hyderabad, who specialises in abstracts, has participated in a number of exhibitions and has several of his paintings at prestigious Art Galleries in India and abroad.

Stanley Suresh, a Post Graduate in Painting from Viswabharati, and a research scholar in National Academy of Art, Lalit Kala Academy, Madras, also was chosen for his paintings.

The others selected for the show include C. Sudhakar, a PG from MS University, specialising in prints, A Rajeshwara Rao, an MFA in painting from Universiry of Hyderabad, who has exhibited at major art galleries around the country, and S Lakshmana Murthy, also MFA in painting.

Sajid Bin Amar, an MFA from University of Hyderabad, has also been selected for his paintings and print making, and along with K Srinivasa Chari, an MFA in painting from the same university.
